Come Sing at Sigma

When I moved to Colorado I learned that there was an amazing concert venue on the outskirts of Denver. Red Rocks is an open air concert venue built into the side of the mountains, it is arguably the most beautiful and acoustically pleasing venue in the world. For my first concert I went there to see New Politics, Fall Out Boy and Paramore. What I saw that night has stuck with me for years.

That night during the song “Misery Business” the lead singer of the band Paramore Hayley Williams stopped singing and told everyone it was time to bring someone on stage. After some searching an enthusiastic young fan named Anissa was picked. In introducing Anissa, Hayley told everyone they had Anissa shirts, Anissa tattoos and everyone was now Anissas biggest fan.

That’s what I feel like working at Sigma is like, it is a unique experience unlike any other I have ever had and I feel like I get to be Anissa every day at work. Everyone at Sigma is everyone else’s biggest fan and we all have each others t-shirts. We are your biggest fan and we haven’t even met you yet. When you build a culture like that, one of true positivity and not of bullshit platitudes it changes how you work, how you engage with your fellow employees and it changes your life.

Hayley handed Anissa the “Golden Microphone” and counted her down and well, see for yourself.

Anissa crushed the song with the crowd singing along, giving her the memory of a lifetime.

At Sigma you have the “Golden Microphone” every day and the song you are singing is the song we are singing. We are all singing the same song and moving in the same direction because we all have the same goal, to make the best Data Analytics Platform.

After the concert I went home and watched a bunch of these videos of people on stage singing Misery Business and one really stuck out to me because it is one of the best and worst things at the same time. A fan is brought on stage, she starts singing, the crowd is just going crazy and for the chorus she steps up on one of the music trunks. As she is finishing the chorus she steps down and she falls…..

Ugh, imagine having your embarrassing moment in front of thousands of people, those are the type of moments that keep you awake at night 10 years later. Instead of just standing there or just quickly trying to help the girl up, creating a more awkward situation, Hayley quickly lays down next to the girl and the guitarists quickly join them while still playing their hearts out. They all continue the song from the floor of the stage and the crowd just absolutely erupts.

We all fall down, we all make mistakes and we all fail at times. What matters is how that failure is handled and at Sigma we are going to join you on the floor while still singing your song. There is a grace you can have during those hard times and that is ingrained in our culture. We want you to succeed because if you succeed we all succeed because we are all singing the same song.

So I want you to come sing with us at Sigma, after all, we are your biggest fan.
